The Real Meaning Behind Snapchat Symbols and Icons

Snapchat has become one of the most popular social platforms, with an impressively engaged user base. It’s easy to rely on the app to keep up with friends and family members, but it can be hard to keep track of all the different symbols that show up in the app at any given time. what does the x mean on snapchat ? Let’s look at a few of the most common ones.

1. Snapchat Trophies

You may see a trophy icon appear around the top of your Snapchat profile. This is a virtual reward for sending Snapchats and completing various activities within Snapchat itself. You’ll get a trophy when you hit certain milestones, such as reaching a certain number of Snaps sent or getting a Streak with someone. If you tap on the trophy icon, you’ll be brought to a page where you can read descriptions of all the trophies you have unlocked.

2. Friends List Emojis

Emojis can also appear next to your friends’ names in your Friends List. These usually indicate something related to your relationship with that person. For example, you might see a Baby emoji beside your cousin’s name, or a Cake beside the friend whose birthday is coming up. Other emojis show whether you two are Best Friends, or if the other person has recently replayed one of your Snaps.

3. Snapchat Stories

Wherever you find a list of Snaps from friends, you’ll also often see a colorful circle around their profile picture. This means they have added a Snap to their Story, which is a collection of Snaps visible to anyone who adds them. If a friend’s Story has an eye-shaped icon over their profile picture, this means that people who add them can’t replay the Story, or even take screenshots of it.

4. Snapchat Maps

If you open up Snapchat Maps, you’ll find little Bitmoji icons scattered across the map. These indicate where your friends are located in real-time. If a friend’s icon has a little star inside it, it means they have shared their location with you. If their icon is gray, it means their location is turned off.

Now that you know what some of these symbols mean, let’s dive into the biggest one: What does the X mean on Snapchat? The X symbol appears in a couple of places. In your Friends List, you may find an X beside the names of people you’ve removed from your friends. An X will also appear while you’re creating a new group chat, signifying that you’ve removed someone from the chat.

5. Missed Snaps

Whenever you open the Snapchat app, you may find a box with a red “X” on it at the bottom left of your screen. This means that you have a Snap or Message waiting for you. If someone sends you a Snap or Message that has yet to be opened, an X will also appear above their name in your Friends List. Once you open it, the X will disappear.

6. Blocked Users

Lastly, you may find an “X” by the name of certain users if you attempt to add them back. This is because people who were blocked or removed from your friends cannot be re-added until the block is lifted, or if you decide to unblock them later on.

Understanding the meaning behind the X symbol and all the other symbols and icons within the Snapchat app can help make using the platform more enjoyable and efficient. So the next time you fire up Snapchat, hopefully you’ll have a better understanding of what you’re looking at!
